How do I schedule an appointment?
To schedule an appointment, call our offices during regular business hours (Monday through Thursday 9 am to 5 pm). Our office staff will ask you some basic questions about you, your insurance, and your availability. We will try our best to schedule an appointment that meets your needs. When you come in for your first appointment, you will need to bring your insurance card and arrive about 10-15 minutes early to complete some paperwork.
What health insurance do you accept?
How long does therapy or counseling take?
Therapy and counseling is not predictable. The time that a person spends in therapy can vary according to the person, the nature of the problem, and the severity of the issues.
When should I see a psychologist?
Not everyone with problems enters treatment. Often people enter therapy when their usual coping skills no longer resolve their problems or when their problems begin to interfere with their family, social, work, or educational performance. The decision to see a psychologist does not make you “crazy,” nor does it mean that you are a weak person. You have recognized that there are issues that need to be changed and made the decision to better yourself and/or your life. For a list of common problems that bring patients into see a psychologist, please visit our Services page.
Are these services confidential?
Communication between psychologists and patients is usually confidential. If you are a parent bringing a child to therapy, talk to your psychologist about special limitations to confidentiality. The psychologist may also break confidentiality if he/she believes you are an imminent danger to yourself or others or if he/she learns about any child and/or elder abuse. If you are using insurance to pay for your services, some information may be shared with your insurance company. You will be provided with a HIPAA disclosure during your first appointment that details what information may be shared. Otherwise, your psychologist is not permitted to disclose what you talk about to other people without your written consent.
What if I have to cancel an appointment?
Unlike medical doctors, we do not “double book” appointments and reserve each appointment time specifically for you. If you have to cancel an appointment, we would appreciate at least 24 hours notice. Otherwise, we may have to charge you a cancellation fee.
Do you prescribe medication?
While a psychologist helps people with their problems, they are not medical doctors (MDs) and cannot prescribe medications. A psychiatrist or your family doctor can prescribe medication. With your permission, we can refer you to a psychiatrist and also share your relevant progress in therapy, if desired.
